What is a UCC/SANs SSL certificate
Typically, a standard SSL certificate is issued to a single FQDN, such as www.example.com. A GlobalSign SANs SSL certificate allows you to add up to 40 FQDNs, subdomains, public IP addresses, internal IP addresses and local hostnames to be secured using the same single certificate. This provides complete flexibility and allows you to build a SSL certificate that is simple to use, simple to install and more secure than a wildcard SSL. Each SANs certificate is built for your exact server security requirements.
SANs SSL certificates are often referred to as Unified Communications Certificates (UCC) or multi domain SSL certificates. GlobalSign is one of the few CAs who can offer SANs with Extended Validation SSL certificates (EV SSL certificates) along with domain and organization validated certificates.
The benefits of using a GlobalSign UCC/SANs certificate:
- secures everything with a single SSL certificate, easier to install and manage
- avoid technical and security limitations of wildcard SSL certificates
- requires just a single IP address
GlobalSign UCC/SANs certificates carry all the benefits of GlobalSign SSL including universal browser and device support, 3 for 1 server licenses and free SGC Security.
How can a SANs SSL certificate be used?
You can include any combination of FQDNs, subdomains, public IPs, internal IPs and local hostnames with a maximum of 40 "items" in total.
-
Unified Communications (UC)
Support secure applications for new technologies such as Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. UC support is added free of charge, making GlobalSign the lowest cost provider of UC compatible SSL certificates, with even lower costs when purchased through Totally GlobalSign. -
Up to 40 Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs)
If your company has different domains, such as example.com, domain.com, or different top level domains such as example.com, example.net, example.org, a GlobalSign SANs SSL certificate will secure them all with just one SSL certificate. -
Up to 40 multi-level subdomains
Secure all your subdomains, even if they are on different levels. For example, www.example.com, login.example.com, www.secure.subdivision.example.com and support.store.example.com. All levels of subdomain are supported. -
Up to 40 public IP addresses
You can add public IP addresses to your certificate, providing GlobalSign can verify you own each IP address. -
Up to 40 local hostnames or internal IP addresses
Add all of your local hostnames and internal IP addresses, free of charge. For example, server1, mailserver, 192.168.2.0, 172.30.1.1
SSL certificates with Unified Communications (UC) compatibility
Unified communications servers, such as Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server, often require you to be able to secure the autodiscover. and mail. subdomains. GlobalSign's standard Unified Communications (UC) Compatibility can be activated with any SANs certificate to secure either (or both) of these two subdomains, free of charge.
If other subdomains are required for your UC implementation, the subdomains you need to secure should be added as Additional Subdomains.
Remember, if you need a SANs SSL certificate for Unified Communcations, GlobalSign can offer this with their EV (Extended Validation) SSL certificates which turn the address bar green and offer the highest level of trust.
Pricing for Subject Alternative Names
The Subject Alternative Names option can be added to any of the three GlobalSign certificates, free of charge. Also activating the Unified Communications (UC) Compatibility is free of charge.
The only additional price is for each "item" you wish to add to the SANs certificate. For example: for each FQDN, each IP address etc. The table below details these prices.
